Mansfield Road House
Refurbishment and rear extension of a maisonette in North-West London.
The key feature of the project is a timber-framed, redwood-clad cubic volume with a sedum roof — a Japanese artist’s studio added at the rear of the house. With its transparency and almost frameless panoramic glazing, the garden and sky become part of the working environment, offering quiet focus and indoor comfort in the heart of the landscape.
Thanks to its north-facing orientation, the studio avoids glare and overheating, while a west-facing vertical skylight brings the evening sun onto the paved patio between the extension and the boundary.
